The Salt-Stained Book could be described as an Arthur Ransome for the 21st century. Most of the action is set on the Shotley peninsula in Suffolk, mainly on the River Orwell. Thirteen year old Donny and his disabled mother arrive in the area hoping to meet a mysterious Great Aunt. Instead they fall foul of two grotesque and strangely hostile representatives of the Care System. A modern-day story of piracy and exploitation is set to unfold over the trilogy as a whole. In this first volume Donny discovers his talent for sailing, makes important friendships and learns how a wartime tragedy has blighted his family’s life.
